Early Modern Books (EMB) (ebooks)

Early Modern Books (EMB) provides an integrated search in the databases Early European Books and Early English Books Online.

Early European Books (EEB) is a collection of digitised books from the late Middle Ages to the French revolution. The subjects covered in the books are what people were interested in from 1450 to 1700: science, literature, history, theology, geography and much more. The difference between EEB and other databases which contain digitised older texts is, that the creators of EEB attach importance the physical side of the books as well as the texts inside them: Pages are scanned in high-resolution and the books are photographed from all angles, which makes it possible to take a closer look at for example covers and edges. The database contains several collections created at European research libraries, such as the Royal Libraries in Copenhagen and The Hague. At Lund University we have access to three of the collections: The Danish Royal Library's collection of Danish and Icelandic print from the 15th and 16th century, four early collections from the National Central Library of Florence and a big collection of 3 million pages from more than 10000 printed works within the main European languages, printed in cities that have been important for the development of the printing industry at their time. Those have been scanned at different European libraries.

Early English Books Online (EEBO) contains almost everything printed on the British Isles and in North America, as well as other books written in English from other places printed 1450-1700. Over 200 libraries worldwide have contributed to the database.
