Svenskt kvinnobiografiskt lexikon
The Biographical Dictionary of Swedish Women (SKBL) provides access to 2000 biographies of women who actively contributed to Swedish society. The dictionary contains biographies of women who, across several centuries and in many different ways, have contributed to society’s development, both within Sweden and beyond. The entries, based on a mix of existing and brand-new research, were mainly selected with an emphasis on societal significance rather than personal fame. The selection includes female pioneers and women who fought for gender equality as well as historically significant women. Finnish women are also included for the pre-1809 era.
SKBL is produced by the University of Gothenburg. The articles are written by experts and researchers. The images used in SKBL come from museums, archives and private collections. SKBL does not own any of the images and therefore cannot give permission for them to be reproduced.
Svensk kvinnobiografiskt lexikon innehåller 2000 levnadsteckningar över svenska kvinnor och över utländska kvinnor som varit verksamma i Sverige. I lexikonet biograferas kvinnor som under olika tider och på varierande sätt har bidragit till samhällsutvecklingen, såväl lokalt som nationellt och internationellt. Äldre biografiska verk och aktuell forskning har varit utgångspunkt för urvalet, som generellt betonar samhällelig betydelse framför berömmelse. Kvinnliga pionjärer och kvinnor som varit aktiva i arbetet för könens jämställdhet finns med, liksom historiskt betydelsefulla kvinnor. Före 1809 inkluderas Finland.
SKBL har producerats vid Göteborgs universitet. Artiklarna har skrivits av specialister och forskare i hela Sverige. Bilderna i SKBL har hämtats från muséer, arkiv och privatpersoner. SKBL äger alltså inte bilderna och kan därmed inte ge tillstånd till reproduktion.
